Ritual territories and hidden powers — 1st meeting
6pm
For this summer’s first Club meeting, Verticale invited Marie-Michèle Beaudoin, Marie-Andrée Godin and Massimo Guerrera to compile a reading list and lead a group discussion around the theme of interest to the Centre.
As part of its regular off-site programming for 2017-2018, Verticale has invited artists to re-examine Laval’s natural, social and/or political territory by imagining it under the particular lens of the rite and ritual as vectors of community cohesiveness and singularity, of social marginalisation, and an expression of self-sustaining power. Viewing the local landscape from this angle, Verticale has identified two distinct archetypal and metaphorical figures, each maintaining a relationship to the territory through a set of ritual practices: the witch and the gangster. And so, with the Club’s first meeting of the summer, the Center sets the stage for the launch of its artistic programming in September.
