Conversation with the artist
Verticale — centre d’artistes invites the public to the concluding of Mous souvenirs by the artist Miri Chekhanovich. Mous souvenirs took place the building VCA shares with the Armenian Community Centre of Laval. Outside, under the big weeping willow, the makeshift kitchen where Miri worked will be transformed into a market stall. Now, her edible bioplastic samples resemble the traditional Armenian delicacy called t’tu lavash – thin, rolled up sheets of sun-dried fruit purée.
The event is an opportunity to chat with the artist about her experience with project. To mobilize people from her community to join her in these group actions, trust had to be built over time, one interaction at a time. In parallel to what was a destabilizing process for her, Miri gained a new understanding of the materiel – intrinsically elusive, unstable and alive – she uses in her sculptures.
