For the artist, 3D digitization is part of larger practice of documenting reality. The headset allows users to revisit places that have been frozen in time.

On bord the Verticale Villa, we stop for a moment to digitize images of buildings we once knew 10 years ago, stopping by between our film studies class at Montmorency and a round of arcade games at Amusement 2000. We park near a baseball diamond and ask the Pee-Wee players to describe their ideal ball park to us.

We are on a nomadic residency. We drive to capture, we stop to reconstruct. We work on a few proposals for a trick-filled circuit in Laval.

From our camping chairs, we watch the city change.

Rencontre in-game is an experiment in virtual reality.

Partners

The Centre de la nature de Laval, located in the district of Saint-Vincent-de-Paul, is an urban park with over 50 hectares of land, making it Laval’s largest park. This family-focused green space was developed on the site of a former quarry, and also partially on the site of a former garbage dump. This is one of the few examples of this type of redevelopment in North America. Decades of work went into giving the site a new life after years of resource extraction. Thanks to a huge collective effort, the natural environment can once again breathe and give Laval residents a green garden oasis.

This residency is made possible thanks to the Programme d’aide aux initiatives de partenariats (MCC) for the year 2017, as part of an agreement between the Ville de Laval, the ministère de la Culture et des Communications, and the Commission scolaire de Laval.
