Club plastique — First meeting
1 p.m.
First meeting — Le club plastique [the material club] is an incursion into Chloë Lalonde’s studio, a hive of activity where she fabricates supports and pigments on a human scale. Her refusal to use plastic-based paints and non-biodegradable materials led to her research on the material culture of painting. From plant waste from her own backyard and food scraps such as dried orange peels, avocado pits and cabbage, she makes her own pigments and watercolours, as well as her own canvases.
Slowly, in isolation, processes were set in motion—like glancing across the objects that clutter our interiors. Le club plastique [the material club] is an open invitation to come play with and deconstruct the things that surround us every day, and to sink our hands into the thickness of now. It’s moving from talk to action, while skipping the theory!
