Biographies

Lucie Bureau

Lucie Bureau holds a Certificate in Archival Studies, a BA and MA in Art History, a Certificate in Administration, and a Certificate in Social Work. She has worked within the cultural milieu since 1987 as an administrative director and as a records and archives manager. Among her writing, research, and curatorial projects, she has looked at the history of women photographers from the 19th to early 20th century. As an archivist, she has guided many artist-run centres in the implementing document and archival management systems in their office administration.

Pierre Dupras

Pierre Dupras received a Certificate in Film Studies (1983-1984), Printmaking (1984-1985) and Sculpture (1987) from Université du Québec à Montréal. He has worked as a sculpture professor, as well as a cartoonist in several media, namely publishing a book of caricatures and comic strips titled Vive le Québec libre in 1969. He has been invited to design the “Louve” trophy, an annual award at the Festival du nouveau cinéma in Montréal. His practice also includes painting-sculptures in which painted canvas elements are combined with low-relief wood sculptures. In 1995, at Galerie Verticale, the exhibition Toporythme demonstrated this synthesis between the mental space of painting and the physical space of sculpture. While ceramic components symbolize primitivism, iron represents the Industrial Age. His series Les terres déchirées, for example, illustrates this symbiosis between the ancestral and the industrial, while pointing to the contemporary threat of pollution, which may well destroy our planet.

Lisette Lemieux

Born in Arthabaska, Lisette Lemieux first completed a BA in Pedagogical Studies at Université de Sherbrooke before moving on to study fine arts. She holds a BA from Université Laval, a BA in Art History from Université de Montréal, and a BFA and MFA from UQAM.

Since 1975, Lemieux has had many solo and group exhibitions in Québec and abroad. She has also produced several public art works, notably Transcription 92 (1992) at the Centre Pierre-Péladeau and Kristallnacht (2003) at the Montreal Holocaust Museum. In 2006, her piece Liber was offered by the City of Montréal to UNESCO on the occasion of the event Montréal, World Book Capital.
