In situ interventions and online project
Verticale — centre d’artistes invites the public to discover in-situ interventions and online works by Rose de la Riva, as part of her project Dormance.
In the gardens of the Centre de la nature, visitors can randomly discover a series of signs peeking out of the snowy raised beds. Rather than identifying the botanical specimens they contain, the artist subverts this device to bring our attention to what’s buried and what emerges from our own emotional state. With the help of a smart phone, codes can be scanned to access parts of her research — spaces that are pierced through by the whiteness of the pixels.
The main panel — the only one that can be seen from a distance — features a landscape that shows the resilient nature of plants that have been snowed under. A video-performance, held on a dark and cold evening, explores a more intimate relationship to the plants by experiencing the materiality of their protective coverings and the gestures of horticultural care.
