Verticale launches its 2019–20 programming season. All through 2019–20, the idea of the clan runs through the works presented the idea of the clan permeates the works on display as much as the artistic practices underlying. The clandestine, for its part, runs through the stances and approaches of artists who employ covert, poetic gestures; who build spaces of mutual trust that foster secrecy and exchanges; or who challenge group cohesion by carving out spaces for dialogue and difference. For others still, the clan’s support is a force against exclusion; for the sober attainment of dreams; and for coming to grips either with one’s personal history or a common fate.
