Verticale — centre d’artistes  invites the public to the research and creation mentorship program closing event.

Limitrophe is a painting project that begins with the Bois de la Source in Laval, next to where Crystel grew up.

For this mentorship, Crystel invited David Lafrance to address different aspects of artistic practice—the artist’s statement, the different stages of the creative process, conceptual development—while she documented her return to the forest through photography, drawing, and writing to generate a series of oil paintings inspired by her experiences and their reflections.

Over the course of her mentorship, several themes and issues around her practice emerged, like the importance of a specific area, documenting the process of returning to a site, and observing the impacts of human activity.

At the heart of Crystel’s practice is her preoccupation with raising awareness of the indefinite nature of the climate crisis through landscape painting.
