“Shapes pass in the distance. My neighbour, the grandmother who lives beneath the roofs, calls them ‘birds’.” She says they’re creatures that find their bearings through song. Sometimes I sing, too. In stairways, in the shower, as I touch the clouds with my fingertips. The building isn’t huge, but I always get lost, like on an island where I’d explore new paths.”
Excerpt from a text by Laure Neria (our translation).
“The presence stimulated by L(‘)aval d’un futur completes the data from our preliminary speculative explorations. It’s now a question of revealing the planed and irregular nature of the areas that are otherwise levelled by the futuristic projections, to expose the crust circumscribing the area’s smooth prospective narrative. Over the course of the project, memories and affects were linked to the data to deconstruct the promotional narrative of urban modernity. In the image of a free and uninhibited nature that surreptitiously takes hold of the “Futur Parc,” L(‘)aval d’un futur becomes the original garden of a strategically designed future. In the claustrophobic anticipation of this future park, Alexandre, Frédérique and Guillaume finally create a utopic moment.”
Excerpt from a text by Dominique Sirois-Rouleau (our translation).
This augmented publication is part of the project L(’)aval d’un futur, which follows Exploration spéculative, a digital lab at La Villa that took place from April to October 2020, both in person (socially distanced) and on the Web, and in the Concorde sector in Laval. It recounts and compiles the trio’s spatial agitation in and around Laval. The crust of a plan or the plan of a crust, it concludes a year and a half of research, meetings, and wanderings threaded through the folds of a large marine map.
