Exchange 3 — Artist presentations
3 p.m.
Verticale — centre d’artistes invites the public to attend presentations by Marie-Douce St-Jacques and Jocelyne Thibault to conclude their research and creation residencies in the centre’s archives. The author Catherine Barnabé, who accompanied them over the course of their research, will share her observations and reflections in conversation with the artists.
Marie-Douce St-Jacques is developing a project that addresses themes of micro-movement, renewal, and the links between artists from different generations. A Laval native, she is (re)discovering her home territory and the artists who have settled there, therefore creating a cartography of filiations.
Jocelyne Thibault is attentive to her own construction of narrative, and how her interpretation of the archives helps her understand the works and practices of artists who have shaped the very essence of VCA. She seeks to understand her own place as an artist within this ecosystem.
As the accompanying writer in residence, Catherine Barnabé looks at both artists’ creative process. During her residency, she will observe their research, noting how they are different or similar in their respective relationship to place – which in both cases are quite personal – and underline their dynamics of coexistence.
Through this program, VCA ensures that its archival process can be a catalyst for intergenerational reflection and exchange. The initiative seeks to foster greater awareness of the centre’s history through the viewpoint of artists and writers who are currently involved in the centre, so as to collectively imagine how it might evolve in the future.
