Club vidéo — Second meeting
6:30 p.m.
The second meeting — Le club vidéo [the video club] looks at Julien Gagnon-Rouillard’s social documentary project. Based in the Quebec region of Les Basques, “L’ouvrage d’imaginer autre chose” [The Work of Imagining Something Else] was co-created with members of the community, who do their best to build a welcoming and resilient collective space in the Lower St. Lawrence. The result of nearly two years of collaboration and artistic research, the project is a nomadic and evolving video documentary that questions the current viability of alternative lifestyles and seeks to engage with communities in Quebec and across Canada.
Our current climate is forcing us to find new ways to start over and to propose alternatives to the familiar, traditional models. This Club presents an in-progress, medium-length film that plays with the limits of the documentary format. Positioning themselves within the framework of social art practices, Gagnon-Rouillard looks at the project’s dialogical and evolving form to emulate discourse and stimulate the present by generating intercommunity dialogue that reminds us that transforming our daily life is a slow-going process.
