Digital art comes to the Studio

Verticale — centre d’artistes (VCA) has partnered with the Bibliothèque Multiculturelle de Laval as part of a co-creation project within the Studio, espace numérique. This project, made possible thanks to financial support from the ministère de la Culture et des Communications (MCCQ), is aimed at fostering the creation of new digital works while introducing the general public to these creative tools by involving them in the creative process itself. At the invitation of VCA, curators Lisa Tronca and Laurent Viau-Lapointe called on the Galerie Galerie collective and the artist duo Anna Eyler and Nicolas Lapointe to develop a fun and diverse public program. The artists will occupy the Studio for a series of creative workshops and cultural mediation sessions with Laval residents.

Galerie Galerie

Galerie Galerie is an online platform dedicated to the production, presentation and democratisation of digital and web art within an adaptable and harmonious context. Each year, the organization presents a series of online art exhibitions, gives creative workshops in digital and web art to a wide range of audiences, organizes so-called AFK (Away from Keyboards) cultural mediation events including a digital art auction, and participates in various special projects in collaboration with several partners.

Anna Eyler & Nicolas Lapointe

Anna Eyler holds a BA in Religious Studies and Art History from Carleton University (2010) and a BFA from the University of Ottawa (2015). She received a bursary from the Joseph-Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarships Program (2017-2018) and is currently a finalist for the EDAA (Emerging Digital Artists Award) (2018). Her work has been presented at FILE – Electronic Language International Festival, in Sao Paulo, Brazil (2017). Eyler is currently completing her MFA at Concordia University.

Artist’s website

Nicolas Lapointe is a Montreal based multidisciplinary artist. He studied visual arts at Cégep de l’Outaouais (2010) and obtained his BFA from the University of Ottawa (2015). Lapointe has won several awards, including the Dale and Nick Tedeschi Studio Arts Fellowship. He is currently pursuing his MFA at Concordia University, where he is majoring in Sculpture.
