Chloë Lalonde

Chloë Lalonde (she/they) is completing a double major in art education and anthropology at Concordia University. Since 2016, she has taught painting, drawing and various mixed media workshops for a wide range of audiences.  As an artist and art educator, she aims to reduce her environmental impact as much as possible. Drawing, papermaking, bookbinding, research, and writing on all aspects of art and culture are her areas of focus. She has contributed content to magazines and media outlets such as Yiara (2019-20), The Concordian (2018-2020), CUJAH (2018-19), and Art Matters (2019). Lalonde has also worked with the Concordia University Centre for Creative Reuse (CUCCR) by organizing skill sharing workshops. She is currently the Creative Director for The Concordian, a podcast writer for 4th SPACE, an intern at Livart, and a freelance writer for Maisonneuve Magazine. She enjoys being busy.

Julie Roch-Cuerrier & Joséphine Rivard

Julie Roch-Cuerrier uses different mediums, such as sculpture, photography, and installation, to examine the passage of time as a living subject, and the temporal and transformational processes of raw materials. Her sculptural and visual compositions allow her to question the agency of objects, the transitional aspect of her materials, and the spectral nature of the spaces where the living and non-living meet. She holds an MFA from the Royal College of Art in London, and a BFA from Concordia University. Her work has been presented in several solo and group exhibitions throughout Canada and internationally, including in Montreal (Galerie Division), London (Whitechapel Gallery), and Mexico (Biquini Wax).

Joséphine Rivard is a cultural worker and independent curator. She holds an MA in Art History from UQAM. In addition to her work as Project Manager at Arsenal Contemporary Art, she was the Artistic Coordinator of the 37th International Symposium of Contemporary Art of Baie-Saint-Paul, and in charge of programming for the 8th edition of the Rencontre interuniversitaire de performance actuelle (RIPA).  She now works at Usine C while continuing to produce her own research and exhibition projects. Her curatorial practice is centered on a dialogical and relational approach, fostered by exchange with the public. 

Julie Roch-Cuerrier and Joséphine Rivard had previously worked together in 2017 on the exhibition Écologies/Ecologies, presented at Galerie AVE – Arts Visuels Émergents. Since then, they have maintained a written and oral conversation on their respective practices, and work collaboratively on other shared ideas. In 2020, they published an excerpt of their correspondence on the notion of corespiration on the digital platform Résidence Éditions. This summer, they presented the exhibition Vers des cycles mouvants at EXPRESSION, Centre d’exposition de Saint-Hyacinthe. 

Julien Gagnon-Rouillard

Originally from the town of Mansonville in the Eastern Townships, Julien Gagnon-Rouillard identifies as a gay/queer artist. His interdisciplinary practice brings together pedagogical, activist, journalistic approaches in an experimental research into alternative ways of living communally. Social art, documentary, and installation are ways in which he questions the scope of individual and collective agency. He positions himself as an artist-worker who develops the artistic potential of manual labour. He primarily works with materials leftover from industrial sites as an ecological way to reuse materials, but also as an exercise in humility and desacralizing artworks. He is interested in cultural mediation and the popularization of art as ways to connect with new audiences who are unfamiliar to contemporary art practices. He is currently completing his Master’s degree in Visual and Media Arts from UQAM, with a research focus on degrowth, conviviality, and community resilience. For him, these have the potential to help us imagine a form of human existence that can respond to our current social and environmental crises.
