Les Clubs — 8th edition
Les Clubs [The Clubs] are a series of informal, in-person seminars that are held in the fall of 2021. As a primer for Verticale’s 2021-22 programming, they act as a complement to our biannual theme “Fermentation, science, and fiction.”
Each Club meeting brings together invited guests from different fields—artists, thinkers, writers, and audiences discover key moments in the development of their critical thinking and artistic practices. These events stimulate discussions on issues that affect Verticale’s network of artists and cultural workers, and allows this community of ideas and practices to grow. Supporting texts, videos, and documents serve as starting points for friendly conversations that are open to the public, and co-hosted by the invited guests.
Le club de lecture [the reading club] fosters discourses on art and other related fields. This well-known program is an integral part of Verticale’s DNA.
Le club vidéo [the video club], which focuses on the moving image rather than on theory, gives participants a chance to see rarely screened works and to discuss the ideas and themes they address.
Le club plastique [the material club], our most recent club, engages with the materiality of artistic practices, with an emphasis on making and praxis while offering a place for formal experimentation.
Exchanges take place in French and English.
