Sophie Castonguay

Sophie Castonguay studies the subjectivation of gazes and cultural conditioning. She creates devices using the voice of the artist as an outside voice for the piece. Using narrative modes she attempts to create interference in the reception of the work and forces the spectator to question their position. Her work has been shown in Europe (Paris, Cologne, Basel) and in Quebec (L’œil de Poisson, Axe Néo-7, La Centrale, Dare-Dare, Dazibao). She holds a master’s degree in creation from UQÀM’s École des arts visuels et médiatiques (2007). She’s teacher at the University of Québec at Montréal.

Mathieu Marcoux

Mathieu Marcoux is an electroacoustic music composer. He studied at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal, then in Sweden at the Musikhögskolan in Gothenburg. His creative practice is marked by concrete and spectral musical traditions. It also draws from the universe of psychoanalysis, most notably through a focus on the voice. The privileged place accorded to the voice in listening makes it a rich resource for creating meaningful commotions from acoustic as well as synthetic sounds.

doux soft club

The doux soft club is a collective of artists-curators that brings together the converging reflexive and creative approaches of Pénélope & Chloë, Mariane Stratis and Marion Paquette. The poetic and sculptural aspects of their respective practices is at the heart of their collaboration. Pursuing an aesthetic of softness, the collective foregrounds themes connected to the imperatives of sensation. For these artists, imagining the “doux-soft” hinges on the capacity to see the marvellous in the banal. This approach, which hews closely to the worlds in which each member moves in, favours the emergence of a poetry of the everyday. It’s in this way that their performative work could be said to breathe life into a range of sculptural objects, revealing both their sensed and sensuous natures.

Laurent Lévesque

Making use of installation, digital technologies, photography and video, Laurent Lévesque sets up apparatuses that engage the visitor in a distorted experience of the landscape. He explores the areas of tension between the natural and the artificial. He is especially interested in our relationship with nature, space and time in the contexts of environmental insecurity, the authority of technology, globalization of markets, and the pervasiveness of the Internet. In his projects, the landscapes act as fragments, organized into complex systems beyond what the gaze can comprehend. Thus, his works are to be approached as vaporous ensembles, as geographies, that build one experience after the other. Through such artifices, concrete spaces are organized into conceptual spaces. Born in Sorel (Quebec, Canada), Laurent Lévesque lives and works in Montreal and, recently, also in Seattle, Washington. His projects, which were presented across Quebec, in Ontario, in France and in Peru have led him to be selected for various residency programs and grants.

Christian Bujold

Christian Bujold is a performance artist who has presented his work at several international festivals such as Performance Crossing in Prague (Czech Republic), M:ST8 in Calgary (Canada), CIPAF (Cyprus), Visualeyez in Edmonton (Canada), 7a*11d in Toronto (Canada), Exist-ence 5 in Brisbane (Australia), Viva! Art Action in Montreal (Canada) as well as on different occasions in Quebec, Spain, Greece, the United States and Finland. For DARE-DARE, an artist-run center interested in emerging practices located in public space, he has curated the last two editions of the Viva! Art Action festival, for which he is also a member of the board of directors. He received his MFA in Visual and Media Arts from UQAM in 2011, lives and works in Montreal and has been teaching at Cégep de Granby since 2013.

Michael Eddy, artist-curator

Michael Eddy is an artist and writer working across a variety of disciplines and mediums including performance, drawing, writing and installation. He is interested in discourses surrounding decision-making, negotiations of autonomy, and issues that touch on experience and value. Eddy often collaborates with other artists, most notably as part of the trio Knowles Eddy Knowles, which has been active since 2004. From 2010 to 2013 he was co-organizer of the independent space and artist group HomeShop in Beijing. Eddy’s works have been featured in numerous international publications and exhibitions. He is in residence at Darling Foundry for the period 2019–2022.

Lea Cetera

Lea Cetera was born in 1983, she lives and works in New York City. Her works incorporate sculpture, video and performance, often amalgamated into installation. She utilizes techniques culled from theatre and film-making to address constructed identities and the psychological spaces we construct and operate within, engaging with the mediation of technology, the alienation of the human body, and the aura of the object fetish. She has participated in numerous solo and group shows in the USA and the UK, and has received several public art commissions. Cliff Eyland

Cliff Eyland is a painter, writer and a curator based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He studied at Holland College, Mount Allison University, and the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. Since 1981, he has made paintings, drawings, and notes in an index card 3″x5″ (7.6×12.7 cm) format. Artist’s website

Michael Fernandes is an experimental artist and art educator based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. His work uses familiar, even banal materials to ask the viewer to confront the boundary between daily life and art.

Mina Hedayat

Mina Hedayat was born in Iran. In 2010 moved to Malaysia for pursuing her PhD and after that in 2014 moved to Canada. Mina passionate in painting since her younger days, she is participating in numerous prominent art exhibitions in Iran, Korea, Malaysia and Hong Kong Art Fair. Her desire is using art as a channel to present the beauty and aesthetic nature of women. She is the artist for who does not exist any stylistic border. At any time filled with salty energy sails can transfer the clipper of her inexhaustible imagination to unfamiliar mysterious coast of new terra incognita. “The greatest challenge an artist faces is to adequately channel her first bursts of creative energy. It is necessary to constantly work at improving one’s skills in order to effectively tackle this challenge.” Her main focus is figurative art. She is attracted to the acrylic paintings, Printmaking and Digital Art. In my recent work, I have been developing a series of animal-inspired paintings that blur the boundaries between animals, humanity, women and fine art. Asako Iwama

Asako Iwama is an artist and cook, who lives and works in Tokyo and Berlin. Asako Iwama’s practice has developed around the idea of the ontology of eating. Referring to the social aspects of eating as a metaphor of our relation to nature, Iwama seeks to transform the perception of nourishment, both aesthetically and epistemologically within her practice and work. From 2005 to 2014 she worked at Studio Olafur Eliasson in Berlin. She is founder of the collective group pop-up café. Craig Leonard

Craig Leonard is a Halifax-based artist and teacher. His recent solo exhibitions include Double Happiness Projects, Toronto, and Central Art Garage, Ottawa. His work was also featured in the group show Oh Canada at MASS MoCA, North Adams and Esker Foundation, Calgary. He has taught the course “Radical Forms”at NSCAD University since 2006 and has remained involved in various artist-run centres over the last two decades. Artist’s website

Sean Lynch

Sean Lynch (b. 1978, Kerry, Ireland) is an artist living in Dublin. He was educated at the Städelschule in Frankfurt. Alongside representing Ireland at the Venice Biennale in 2015, recent solo exhibitions include Henry Moore Institute, Leeds (2019), Douglas Hyde Gallery, Dublin (2017), Charles H. Scott Gallery, Vancouver (2016), Rose Art Museum, Boston (2016), Modern Art Oxford (2014), Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane (2013). In 2019 he is Visiting Professor of Sculpture at Carnegie Mellon School of Art, Pittsburgh.
