siesta blue
Siesta blue engages a dialogue with outdoor sites in Laval through the use of multifaceted, pale-blue coloured rug. Doux soft club spreads out the various forms and orchestrates a series of poetic gestures that are intimately connected to the site and the body. The rug’s parts pile up, overlap, take new shapes and become mountains. The collective pursues the project covertly and does not post the locations of the sites they intervene in. All summer long, the results of these performative labs are presented exclusively on-line. Following the same playful approach, a Web platform is created that gradually reveals these transitory imprintings, opening up new ways of perceiving the landscape. To cap things off, the public is invited to come together and take part in a tangible, performative finissage.
The multifaceted, usable rugs resemble dust, slide upon one another, soak up stories and become memory. The more forms and sites there are, the more play, the more possibilities.
Siesta blue starts in June 2019 with an off-site creation residency at the new Centre communautaire Sainte-Dorothée. The collective sets up in the future locale of La Place Maison des jeunes Sainte-Dorothée, prior to the organization’s move to its new premises. The Maison des jeunes, which serves as a covert site for its users—who treat it often as a space of freedom, sociability and emotional security—becomes a physical and symbolic headquarters for the confection of the siesta blue rug.
