This Place Must Burn: Enquête sur une bande de filles malveillantes (Inquiry into a gang of malicious girls)

Nadia Koromuslova will present an infiltration project in the form of a fictional documentary investigation based on specific landmarks within Laval, where the artist lived as a child. Koromuslova primarily works through collaboration. This Place Must Burn: Enquête sur une bande de filles malveillantes is her first solo project.

These infiltrations will take place throughout the city and on the Web (the results of her investigation will be published on a DIY-style web page) and potentially an exhibition of fictional traces.

At the heart of this fictional investigation are young girls who conspire—in their rooms and through conversation—drawing maps of their nocturnal wanderings. The project plays on the ambiguity of the figure of the suburban teenage girl, who on one hand finds herself in the centre of a consumerist world, and on the other, is a victim of all of its trappings.

The final narrative will feature the girls as they are caught in a witch-like transformation, gradually adopting a disturbing negativity and giving themselves the tools to exercise it through actions that border on the criminal and the occult. These increasingly dangerous maneuvers will only end as their projects become more and more destructive.
